John Ronald Brown, also known as Ronnie Biggs, was a British criminal who was involved in the Great Train Robbery of 1963. He was born on August 8, 1929, in London, England.
Brown was a member of a gang that carried out the infamous robbery, in which they stole £2.6 million (equivalent to £53 million today) from a Royal Mail train. The heist was one of the largest in British history and gained widespread media attention.
After the robbery, Brown fled the country and spent several years on the run, eventually settling in Brazil. He became famous for evading capture and for his flamboyant lifestyle, often giving interviews to the media about his involvement in the robbery.
In 2001, Brown returned to the UK to face justice and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the Great Train Robbery. However, he was released on compassionate grounds in 2009 due to his poor health. Brown passed away on December 18, 2013, at the age of 84.
